Privacy Policy
Era is built to be private by default. Your challenge and the photos you take as proof live on your iPhone — not on our servers. This policy explains exactly what information is and isn't involved when you use Era.
The short version
- Your photos never leave your device. Era has no accounts, does not upload your photos, and does not operate a server that stores your content.
- The only personal information that leaves your device is the purchase information needed to sell and restore a subscription, handled by Apple and our subscription provider, RevenueCat.
- Era does not collect your name, email address, contacts, or location, and does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
What information is involved
Photos and challenge data (stored only on your device)
When you check in each day, Era saves your proof photos and your challenge details (your promises, your era name, check-in dates, your day-1 time capsule note, and your progress) locally on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData and the app's local file storage).
This information:
- is stored on your device,
- is not transmitted to us or to any server we operate,
- is included in your device/iCloud backups if you have those enabled (that backup is controlled by Apple and your iOS settings, not by Era), and
- is deleted when you end an era in the app or delete the app.
Purchase information (processed by Apple and RevenueCat)
Era offers auto-renewing subscriptions. When you buy or restore a subscription:
- Apple processes the actual payment through your App Store account. We never see or receive your payment card details.
- We use RevenueCat to validate and manage your subscription status. RevenueCat receives purchase and transaction data (for example, which product you bought, purchase and renewal dates, and subscription status) associated with a pseudonymous app user ID that Era generates. This ID is not your name or email — it is a random identifier used only to keep your subscription working and to let you restore purchases.
Device permissions
- Camera — used solely so you can capture your daily check-in proof photos.
- Photo Library — used solely so you can pick an existing photo as proof, or save a share card you export. Era only accesses the specific photos you choose.
- Notifications — if you enable the daily reminder, Era schedules it locally on your device. No notification data is sent to a server.
You can change or revoke any of these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
How the information is used
- On-device data is used only to run your challenge: to show your board, track your promises and lives, and generate your share cards and finale.
- Purchase data is used only to unlock premium features, keep your subscription active, and let you restore purchases on your devices.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Third parties
- Apple — payment processing and, if enabled by you, device/iCloud backup. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — subscription management. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
These are the only third parties that receive any data from Era. Era does not integrate analytics, advertising, or social-media tracking SDKs.
Data storage and retention
Because your photos and challenge data are stored only on your device, you control them entirely:
- Ending an era in the app deletes that era and its photos from your device.
- Deleting the Era app removes its on-device data from your iPhone.
- Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are retained by those companies according to their own policies and are tied only to the pseudonymous app user ID and your App Store account.
Children's privacy
Era is rated 12+ and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Era does not operate accounts and stores your content only on your device, the app does not gather personal details from any user.
Your choices
- Manage or cancel your subscription anytime in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or from within Era's Settings screen.
- Revoke camera, photo, or notification access anytime in iOS Settings → Era.
- Remove all on-device data by ending your era or deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Era handles data, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect in the app.
